Our plucky damsel assures him that he won't get away with his nefarious scheme, but when he asks Christie if she has any evidence, she can only promise him "I will!" The shady executive has heard all he cares to from the gorgeous gumshoe, and so he promptly ballgags her. Once she's silenced, he explains that he used his resources to find out more about her. He knows that in addition to her literary career, she's also a teacher and part-time librarian.
