Air does not normally become inedible. The air, which is enclosed in diving bottles, should be able to breathe even after years without problems. Still, something was weird about the air from the bottles that had been in the basement for years. Or had someone added something at the last filling? Maybe to preserve the bottles? We do not know - at least Tricia had a very enjoyable last dive with the old double bottle.
