Rachel manages to escape from her cuffs using a hair pin (bobby pin) the release the locks. She flees into the woods, hoping to find someone to help her. Instead, she encounters the director who discovered her missing, and guessed what she would try to do. Because he is expecting guests, he ties Rachel to a tree deep in the woods, gagging her to keep her quiet, then leaves her alone, promising to return by evening to retrieve her.
