By now Kelly has gotten around to lugging around her casted foot. What she hasn't gotten used to is the cast shoe the clinic gave her as a replacement when her first one wore out. It's open in the front and only extends as far as the end of her cast leaving her toes completely vulnerable. Before she was only self-conscious about wearing two different shoes. Now she consciously must continue looking down when she gimps through a stretch of loose gravelly road or when she tries to walk down a steep incline in the road to protect her poor exposed toes.
