The woods are strictly out of bounds even to sixth formers, but Louise finds they are an excellent location to meet her male sixthform friends. One day, mid-term, she is caught but refuses to give the name of the boy that she was with. The housemaster gives her six of the best. But afterwards she still refuses to divulge his name and so has to take his six of the best as well. Louise thinks smoking is something very adult thing to do. Her housemaster does not. A couple of weeks before the end of term she is reported for smoking and receives another twelve strokes for her troubles. Finally at the end of term, her reports are appalling.
