Yesterday she tried to run away from me, and I’ve got a suspicion that she would run away again if she had the chance, and I know that she has her suspicions of me. But today, I need to be able to trust her. Her step-mother has been phoning me for the last few weeks, and has become increasingly suspicious that she never gets chance to speak with her step-daughter. The excuses I was making were no longer washing and she was becoming worried that something had happened to Rosie, and was making plans to travel and visit. There was nothing else I could do. I needed to trust her to phone her mum...

Yesterday she tried to run away from me, and I’ve got a suspicion that she would run away again if she had the chance, and I know that she has her suspicions of me. But today, I need to be able to trust her. Her step-mother has been phoning me for the last few weeks, and has become increasingly suspicious that she never gets chance to speak with her step-daughter. The excuses I was making were no longer washing and she was becoming worried that something had happened to Rosie, and was making plans to travel and visit. There was nothing else I could do. I needed to trust her to phone her mum and let her know she was OK.

I arrived at the caravan and explained that her mum was desperate to hear from her. I asked her if I could trust her if I allowed her to speak to her mum over the phone to put her mums mind at rest. I asked her if I could trust her not to give her step-mother any signals or hints that she was’t happy or that there had been a change in our living situation. She promised me that I could trust her. I asked her what things she missed most since she’d been living in the caravan alone. Music, cigarettes, TV, books... I ask her if she would be happy to have a cigarette in return for her calling her mum and letting her know she was ok. Rosie agreed. So I gave her my phone and she made the call, and while she was speaking to her mum I placed a cigarette in her hands and lit her up. She puffed a sigh of relief, and phoned her mum, reassuring her that she was safe, and that she was just busy with work. She enjoyed her cigarette whilst we talked about her weight gain progression.
