It was a hot, sticky night in Alabama. Loni and Viva were attending the weekly neighborhood cookout, sipping spiked lemonade and devouring ribs so tender you could slurp the meat right off the bone. Although the sun had dipped below the shimmering horizon hours ago, the air was obstinate and thick with sweat. Plates of bone and gristle laid strewn about the matted grass, the scent of Marges famous homemade barbecue sauce still wafting lazily though the gelatinous night air.
