He didn't expect anyone to be home. So when he found Joy, the lady of the house there, he had to do something with her before she could run off and call for help. He made her sit down on the couch as he tried to figure out what to do with her. Realizing he had no other choice, he pulled an extension cord out of the wall and tied her hands behind her back.
