Sophie has committed to paying off her gambling debts in a special way. She engages in humiliating games devised for sadistic amusement by her creditors, along with the eccentric Ms. Major Markowicz. In this scene they tell Sophie, that her stamina would be rewarded, while her weakness and fickleness would be punished. All she has to do is standing on her tiptoes, but every time she goes down her ass will get an electric shock. Ms. Major is going to make this test more difficult for Sophie when she uses a cigarette to make Sophie falter and drive her to despair.
