Kendra, a woman recently married to a widower, has a problem. Emma, her new step-daughter, avoids her at every turn. At dinner, if her step-father is not eating with them, Emma eats as quickly as she can and asks to be excused. If she's watching the TV and Kendra walks into the room, Emma turns the box off and leaves, maybe bothering to say that there's nothing in explaination. If Emma's on the phone, she asks if she can call back and hangs up whenever Kendra comes within earshot. After a few months, it begns to wear thin.
