“Today’s the day...the BIG day! Just then, there’s a creak and a gust of wind that creeps across her skin like an otherworldly whisper. It makes Ludella jump, but then she nervously laughs it off, convincing herself that it’s just her nerves getting to her. It’s just the wind. It wouldn’t be anything else...right? But she continues to hear strange sounds that eat away at her confidence and make her jumpy.
“Stop freaking out...” She tells herself. “It’s just the wind...It’s not a spirit coming out to get me or anything. Haha. That’s just not possible. Those who have passed are in the past. They’re gone. They can’t hurt me...” She laughs nervously. “I sound so superstitious right now. It’s just my nerves. Just some pre-camera jitters...” But then a strange white wisp resembling smoke floats up from the ground to snatch away her clothes, making them vanish before our eyes. She looks down and gasps, quickly covering herself with her hands as a reflex, but then she slowly lowers them again, convincing herself that she’s just hallucinating that she’s naked as an effect of being in the desert for too long.
She stands in the middle of the tomb in her birthday suit in denial of the fact that she’s actually naked. “I’ve been in the desert far too long and I’m simply imagining that my clothes are gone. That’s all. It’s just the nerves...” She touches her abdomen and feeling confused at the realistic feeling of flesh, she lets her hands wander up to her breasts, squeezing and poking to determine if she’s actually feeling her naked skin. Embarrassed to be butt naked in the middle of an ancient tomb (and her job site) she continues to try to cover herself with her hands as she peeks and peers around in search of her missing clothes. And that’s when the latch of the ancient door is heard as well as a swell of voices drawing nearer. “The reporters! No, no...why NOW?” She retreats back into the wall as if willing herself to become invisible. Her eyes grow huge and her lips quiver in anticipation of the throng descending upon her. There’s a sea of gasps as they round the corner and find her standing there naked. “It’s...not what it looks like... It’s... Are the cameras--? No...nonononono...” She stammers.
She fidgets nervously, humiliated and in such a state of shock that she can’t manage to speak coherently, aware that all eyes are on her...all CAMERAS on her... “I wish I could disappear into the hieroglyphics...” She whispers to herself, then working up some courage to address the wide-eyed crowd, she says, “Uh...this wasn’t what I was intending to reveal... If somebody has something I could wear...I could show you some of the excavated artifacts...” But it seems that the crowd is more interested in what’s already been uncovered: her nude body. They continue to roll the cameras and capture her embarrassing predicament and nervous naked fidgeting on live television being aired by numerous international networks.
“My career is ruined...I should have never dug up this tomb...” She whines. “Oh, I really did make a spirit angry, didn’t I?” She looks around the room. “I see what you did...you made me dig my own grave...” She sighs in acknowledgement, closing her eyes and wishing away the cameras and crew, but the reporters continue to document her BUTT NAKED embarrassment...the END of her career as an esteemed archaeologist.
