The warden has sent Prison Officer Wood to punish a prisoner for being the ringleader in the recent brawl in the prison. Three inmates gave him up so it's time to remember where he is and get a suitable punishment. He's in for a harsh judicial punishment - 70 strokes of the cane due to the seriousness of this offence. He's going to count out every single stroke so he knows exactly how much punishment he has left to come. With relentless cane stroke after cane stroke he is well and truly reminded.
