After getting all the ropes as tight as he wants them, his hips are hoisted slightly above the mud by his genitals and his ankles are pulling him the other way. At that point, the best way to avoid putting too much weight on his genitals is to dive, head-first, into the muck, using a hose to breathe through. After a few minutes inverted in the mud, John's magnetic fail-safe timer releases his genitals so he can painlessly return to a more upright position. His final challenge is getting his ankles untied; first from the tree, then from each other. It's not easy, because the ropes binding his ankles have pulled pretty tight and the mud makes untying knots a bit more difficult.
