You awake to darkness. You can't seem to open your eyes. Your body feels heavy, like you've been napping or a long time. Close by you hear a constant, even beeping sound. To your left you hear soft breathing and flipping of magazine pages. You try to speak, to ask what's going on, but your throat feels dry and rough.
