I had this problem, you see. An embarrassing disorder, which made my social life a minefield. My flatulence was not discreet, oh no. It was loud, brazen, capable of silencing a crowded room. And the smell... well, it was better not to describe it.
I tried to control myself, of course. Strict diet, miraculous herbal teas, breathing exercises worthy of a Tibetan monk. But sometimes, my body decided to do its own thing, emitting sounds that would make a trucker blush.
Like in that moment, precisely. I was standing in front of the candle rack, torn between "Sea Breeze" and "Cherry Blossom," when I heard the sinister rumble. A shiver of terror ran down my spine. No, not here, not now.
But it was too late. A deep rumble, followed by a foul odor, broke the silence of the store. The clerk, a girl with pink hair and a nose ring, whirled around, her nostrils flaring.
With my tail between my legs, I grabbed the first candle I could find and headed for the register. I paid quickly, avoiding the clerk's gaze, and walked out of the store at a brisk pace.
As I walked down the street, my face still burning, I couldn't help but smile. What a ridiculous situation! But then again, what was wrong with it? Everyone farts, right? It's a natural function of the body, even if society insists on considering it a taboo.
I decided that from that point on I would try to be more philosophical about it. If I had to pass embarrassing gas, at least I should do it with my head held high. After all, life is too short to worry about farting in public.

Il profumo di lavanda e vaniglia aleggiava nell'aria, un dolce profumo per le mie narici. Ero entrata da "Essenze & Delizie" con l'intenzione di acquistare una candela profumata per la camera da letto, ma ora l'unico aroma che percepivo era quello, ben più pungente, che proveniva dal mio intestino.
Avevo questo problema, vedete. Un disturbo imbarazzante, che mi rendeva la vita sociale un campo minato. Le mie flatulenze non erano discrete, oh no. Erano fragorose, sfacciate, capaci di zittire una stanza affollata. E l'odore... beh, era meglio non descriverlo.
Cercavo di controllarmi, ovviamente. Dieta ferrea, tisane miracolose, esercizi di respirazione degni di un monaco tibetano. Ma a volte, il mio corpo decideva di fare di testa sua, emettendo suoni che avrebbero fatto arrossire un camionista.
Come in quel momento, appunto. Ero in piedi davanti allo scaffale delle candele, indecisa tra "Brezza Marina" e "Fiori di Ciliegio", quando sentii il brontolio sinistro. Un brivido di terrore mi percorse la schiena. No, non qui, non ora.
Ma era troppo tardi. Un rombo profondo, seguito da una zaffata mefitica, ruppe il silenzio del negozio. La commessa, una ragazza con i capelli rosa e un piercing al naso, si voltò di colpo, le narici dilatate.
Con la coda tra le gambe, afferrai la prima candela che mi capitò a tiro e mi diressi verso la cassa. Pagai in fretta, evitando lo sguardo della commessa, e uscii dal negozio a passo spedito.
Mentre percorrevo la strada, con il viso ancora in fiamme, non potei fare a meno di sorridere. Che situazione ridicola! Ma in fondo, cosa c'era di male? Tutti scoreggiano, no? È una funzione naturale del corpo, anche se la società si ostina a considerarla un tabù.
Decisi che da quel momento in poi avrei cercato di prendere la cosa con più filosofia. Se proprio dovevo emettere gas imbarazzanti, che almeno lo facessi a testa alta. Dopotutto, la vita è troppo breve per preoccuparsi di scoregge in pubblico.
