Nurse trainees Gloria, Maria and Kelly have an hour break between hospital shifts. Dr. Bianca enters and asks for a volunteer "air-nurse" for the next week transporting a very rich patient by airplane. It is an easy job, with extra pay and good exposure. All the trainees immediately want the assignment. Dr.Bianca has an idea to select a nurse with a very special draw. The naive nurses agree without understanding her "process". Dr. Bianca pulls out the defibrillator and asks "Who wants to go first? The highest tolerated voltage without getting a CA gets the assignment!". Scared now but unenthusiastic to back down each nervous trainee lays down to receive rounds of electro-shocks one, after the another... Who will win??? Kelly is the first and is really scared. Bianca hooks her up to a heart monitor for safety. Green 3M pads are placed on her chest. The first shock is small but painful. Bianca increases the voltage and it has a small effect on her heartbeat. As Bianca increases the voltage you can see a stronger effect on the EKG. Kelly starts gasping for air but a few second later she is OK. Bianca doesn't stop, and increases the voltage further. Following another shock her heart goes arrhythmic and she faints for a few seconds. Soon she opens her eyes. Gloria and Maria prefer to stop it but Kelly - and Bianca of course - want to continue for the plum assignment. Now it is up to 75 Joules! The Defibrillator charges once again. Poor Kelly's heart goes to Vfib immediately. She gasps for air a few times, then collapses. Bianca starts CPR and the other nurse trainees help her with ambu bagging Kelly. Following a few cycles, they charge the defibrillator, and after another shock Kelly's pulse returns! The next nurse is Gloria. And the situation is the same. First Dr. Bianca sets the defibrillator to the lowest level. Following the shock Gloria is cool and says it is nothing! So Dr. Bianca sets the level higher again and again. Following a 35 Joule jolt the EKG effect shows and Gloria starts getting scared. But the game is not over! At 75 Joules she almost collapses from a short arrhythmia. But she is still OK! She wants to continue! Following the next jolt her heart goes immediately into Vfib. She gasps for air a few times and almost collapses but suddenly her sinus rhythm is back!
