Before long, Gummi tries to cross an especially soft spot and begins to sink. Deeper and deeper she goes--right down to her neck! She is stuck, and struggles in vain to lift herself from the ooze. But then, she is inspired to wiggle herself out of the dress, and to freedom. It doesn't seem to work at first.
