Out of restlessness she hiked up her pretty, feminine dress and straightened her stockings and made sure they were attached properly at the tops. She then sat down and stretched her long legs out and put her shoes on her desk while talking sweetly on the phone to her boss. Afterwards she started to think how much her feet ached from having to wear and walk around in high-heels all day. She tried many things to make the pain go away - walking up and down, taking the shoes off and rubbing her feet. She wished she had someone on hand to give her a foot rub. She was also unhappy about the damage the shoes had done. Pacing about barefoot, she lamented how her toes angled in from the tight fit of the shoe, how her feet were red in places, and how she had calluses and bunions. Later she sat down at her desk again and rubbed her feet on her chair to try to ease the pain. Eventually she decided to look in her closet and see if there were some more comfortable shoes. She tried on an evening pair, some strapped ones and several others, but none of them fitted her feet any better. Finally she massaged one high-heeled shoe against one bare foot. It eased the pain and Rachel felt better at last. But there would not have been any of these problems if she could have stayed at home like she wanted. There she could have been a good wife and worn shoes of her choice - not uncomfortable business ones!
