Her boss and the client, Mrs. Harding, enter the office. Mrs. Harding has brought a wicked looking cane with her and she explains to Mr. MacDonald that when she was a girl she was disciplined properly, with the cane, and that is what she insists Amelia Jane gets.

Amelia Jane protests that she has already been punished by both of them and Mr. MacDonald has to remind her that her job and whole career is on the line. Eventually she bends over the desk but cannot control her tongue as she expresses her opinion of Mrs. Harding.

Mrs. Harding hands the cane to Mr. MacDonald who proceeds to give Amelia Jane 13 strokes. It was meant to be only 12 but half way through their was a disagreement about how many strokes she had been given which was not settled in her favor. Much to her dismay, Amelia Jane was then caned by Mrs. Harding. She protested vehemently, accusing Mrs. Harding of being a crazy woman but to no avail. Amelia got another 6 and then to add to her woes, Mrs. Harding insisted that Mr. MacDonald administer a final six.
