I don't believe the show would have the same humor and effect on people if these interviews weren't in place. I do think what also carries the story and adds into the narration of the story. Throughout the episodes, we see close-ups and zoom In's on characters faces that give us a sense of how others are feeling and reacting to a situation. Since this is an office, and these characters are technically employees, it would be hard to gauge their TRUE feelings and reactions without the camera zoom In's and interviews.
