Zonah has been wanting to try an unusual experiment for some time. On a trip to Australia, she saw an off-road vehicle with a flat tire being jacked up by a large bag inflated by the vehicle's exhaust gases. The tailpipe attachment did not appear to be a very high-pressure affair, and she began to do some calculations. How much pressure does it take to lift up the corner of a small car or light truck? Encouraged by this information, plus the fact that she has blown up some of the thicker hot water bottles, balloon and even a tire inner tube - to bursting - she decided it is time to put the idea - and herself - to the test. After obtaining a lifting bag, borrowing a 2500-pound Toyota Corolla, and obtaining access to the maintenance warehouse at the Lab on the weekend, she backs the car through the large roll door, sets up the bag and her pressure measurement computer, stretches out a bit, and gets ready to blow. She delivers one powerful breath after another, but unfortunately, the bag ends up in a bad position. She deflates it, re-positions it, and tries again. This time, she can clearly see the car body rise, and then the rear tire lift about an inch off the ground. She tries to spin the tire with her hand to demonstrate that it is off the ground, but it won't turn! Then she remembers - out of habit, she has set the parking brake, which is not needed here due to her use of wheel chocks. After releasing the brake, the wheel spins freely. Ecstatic at having become the first woman to have lifted a car in this manner (at 5'0" tall and about 100 pounds, no less!), she gives it some more puffs in the hope of lifting the whole side of the car. But upon realizing that she would need to re-locate the chocks, and probably also the lifting bag, she decides to just savor her victory, let the car back down, and go ask a friend to borrow a car that is 1000 pounds heavier! This amazing beauty just does not know the word "quit"!
