I am sitting with Kordelia Devonshire and eating some chips when I suddenly start choking. Kordelia gets up immediately and knows what to do. She stands behind me, wraps her arms around me and thrusts me into her body. She is performing the heimlich maneuver on me and trying to save my life. She thrusts me into her a few times, but it doesn't work. I am still struggling to take a breath. Kordelia then tosses me onto the bed and tries to clear my airway. She sits me up and continues to perform the heimlich on me while sitting. This still doesn't work and I Kordelia now lays me flat on my back and begins to perform CPR. She places her mouth over mouth, creating a good seal, and then passes her air into me. You can see my stomach inflate with each breath she gives me. She gives me mouth-to-mouth for a few minutes before I cough and gasp for air. Thank goodness she was there and knew what to do. If the situation had been reversed I wouldn't have been able to help. That is a scary thought, so I asked Kordelia to teach me the hemilich and CPR. Kordelia then explains each process to me and we run through every step. She has me practice on her, giving her the heimlich and also giving her mouth to mouth. Once the instruction is done, I feel confident but still want more practice. So, we decide to do a reenactment of my choking situation, but in reverse. Kordelia pretends to choke on some food and then I go through all the steps to save her. Now I know how to save a life!
