Paul Javal is a writer who is hired to write a screenplay for a new, more commercial Ulysses film, to be directed by Fritz Lang and produced by Jeremy Prokosch. But because he let his wife Camille ride with Prokosch and is late, she believes, he uses her as a kind of gift for Prokosch to get the best of it. Then the relationship ends.
