When the villagers of Kleinschloss start disappearing, the town fathers suspect a resurgence of vampirism, but police inspector Karl remains skeptical.
The scientist Dr. Otto, who cares for the victims, visits a patient who has been attacked, Martha. In appreciation of her kindness, Martha receives a visit from a mentally challenged man named Herman. On the doctor's return trip, she meets Kringen, one of the citizens, who claims he was attacked by the vampire, but has hidden her story of him from the city so as not to spread fear. Dr. Von encourages Kringen to tell the story of him to the citizens. Kringen suspects Glieb may be the vampire due to his obsessions.
Dr. von Niemann returns to his home, which is also home to the love of Breettschneider, the hypochondriacal aunt. The fear of the vampire and the suspicion of Glieb have quickly spread through the city and people are starting to fear him. The next morning, Glieb enters Dr. Von's garden, where Dr. Von, Breettschneider and Bertin are discussing the vampires inside the house. The town fathers enter the house and announce that Kringen and Gleib have disappeared. An angry mob hunts down Gleib and chases him across the countryside and into a cave.
That night, Dr. Von telepathically monitors Emil, as he picks up napping Gorgiana and takes her to Dr. Von's laboratory, where a strange organism is seen. Schnappmann then discovers Gorgiana's body in her bed. Dr. Von and Breettschneider investigate and find Ms. Mueller's crucifix, which Glieb handled the night Dr. Von visited her. Breettschneider is becoming more and more convinced of the presence of vampires in the village as no other plausible explanation is found. When Glieb was seen in the garden that morning, the two conclude that he is guilty.
However, Breettschneider's conviction is canceled. Dr. Von tells Breettschneider to go home and get some napping pills. Bertin discovers that Dr. Von telepathically controls Borst, who is at Breettschneider's home. Dr. Von is revealed to have created an artificial life form. He ties up and gags her in his laboratory of hers. Borst presumably enters with Breettschneider's body on a trolley. Dr. Von approaches Borst, who turns out to be Breettschneider (who didn't take the pills) in costume, with the real Borst on the cart. Dr. Von then struggles with Breettschneider ...
