Carol Sutherland is bright but lazy. When she receives the worst report of any student in the sixth form, the house master decides that only drastic action will work. He tells her that she will be caned every day for a week, unless her work improves dramatically. In addition, she will wear red legging for the whole week, a sign to all her fellow students that she is due to be caned.
