In the distant future, humanity has begun to expand its influence on other worlds, but any further attempt at expansion collides with the hostile attitude of the people who inhabit the Pasateli system, who in addition to refusing any type of contact peaceful seems intent on putting in place a mysterious secret plan to damage the Earth, renamed Project Cleopatra. To try to discover its origin and purpose, three chrononauts, two men and a woman, are sent back in time in a spiritual form, where they take possession of three bodies, finding themselves respectively in the form of Ionius, a Roman, Luba, and Lybia, an Egyptian princess. The year of departure is 48 BC. Julius Caesar arrives in Egypt, officially in peaceful form, but his arrival is seen by many as an attempt by Rome to further expand its domains by extending them to the delta of the Nile. Therefore, a group of Egyptian patriots gathers around the sinister and authoritarian courtesan Apollodria, who proposes to use a woman to approach Caesar (who is notoriously a womanizer). The choice falls, not without some perplexity, on Princess Cleopatra, who despite being a teacher in the art of sex is nevertheless gifted with a reprehensible aspect, but thanks to the magical arts of a priest Apollodria gets to transform her into a beautiful woman of which, as expected, the Roman general falls in love at first sight. Caesar becomes infatuated with Cleopatra to the point of giving her the throne of Egypt, unleashing the ire of the inept and incapable pharaoh Ptolemy XIII, who together with his servant Potino organizes a conspiracy to try to regain power. Two of the three crononauts, Ionius and Lybia, are also involved in the battle for the throne, who are captured by Ptolemy's troops, the two fortunately manage to free themselves thanks to Ionius. Shortly after, however, Ionius and Lybia are captured by the Roman army, and while Lybia will be thrown into prison (from which she will nevertheless manage to escape thanks to Luba) Ionius will instead be noticed by Caesar, who keeps him at his service making him a gladiator. Time passes, and in spite of everything Cleopatra is unable to carry out her intentions, both due to a series of unforeseen events (above all the frequent epileptic seizures that Cesare is said to suffer from) and because, fatally, the woman begins to fall in love really of him, and the birth of little Caesarion convinces her to give up her plans. Mad with joy over the birth of a step-son, Cesare decides to take Cleopatra with him to Rome; the couple's welcome is great, but Cleopatra soon realizes that the real Caesar is very different from the one she has known so far: in fact, if outside Rome the leader is a brave and authoritarian man, inside the home in reality he is under the control of his wife Calpurnia, to whom he is tied like a step-son with his own step-mother. Realizing that for Caesar she will never be the only and most important woman in her life, Cleopatra sees resentment reborn, and using to her advantage the snaking discontent in Rome for the too much power that Caesar is concentrating on himself, she succeeds with the help of Apollodria to corrupt Marcus Junius Brutus. Cleopatra returns to Egypt, where shortly after she receives the visit of the fearful and clumsy Marc Antony, one of the two pretenders together with the young Octavian to the succession at the helm of Rome. Still on the advice of Apollodria, Cleopatra decides to resort to her charm to circumvent the Roman, who literally falls at her feet to the point of starting a conquest campaign towards the east to expand the dominions of Egypt, and Herod's attempts are useless. king of Judea, to warn him of the queen's machinations. Once again Cleopatra (who while wanting to protect her kingdom also dreams of being able to have a normal life) for a moment falters in front of Antony's naivety, but Apollodria's words reveal themselves to be stronger than her weak will; so, with the help of Lybia and Ionius, he deprives Antonio of all his generals overnight, seek a confrontation. Antony returns to Cleopatra, expiring in his arms, and at that point the queen throws off the mask, realizing that she has used the only man who ever genuinely loved her. Alone now, and tired of continuing in a purposeless existence, Cleopatra, together with Ionius, Lybia and Luba, first attempts to escape from Alexandria, but is left surrounded by Octavian's troops inside a pyramid. Concluded their task, the three crononauts return to their era, having understood once and for all what the Cleopatra Project really is: a plan aimed at putting some beautiful Pasateli alongside the most powerful men on Earth in order to be able to circumvent them at the right moment, depriving the planet of its defenders.
